Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees celsius requires investment and innovation across all business sectors. As freight transport accounts for 7% of total greenhouse gas emissions, the sector has a key role to play in decarbonization. On November 1st, 2023, Geopost was recognized by the 14th Reuters Responsible Business Awards for taking bold action to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its operations by 90% by 2040 compared to 2020.
At a ceremony held on November 1, 2023, in London, the judges of the Reuters Responsible Business Awards awarded the concrete and coherent nature of Geopost’s bold 2040 Net Zero ambition and roadmap, as well as the company’s efforts to achieve such a strong target. In a pool of eleven strong contenders, Geopost won the Net Zero Transition Award!
Responsible Business Awards are a world-renowned celebration of strategies and organizations that are truly challenging the status quo of business and transforming the world around them for a more purpose-driven, sustainable future for all. With over 700 applications coming from 51 countries, Geopost was selected by an independent panel of 25 expert judges from all over the globe based on the innovation, impact and scalability of their work.
In February 2023, Geopost became the first global parcel delivery company to have both its near- and long-term science-based targets approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), with the goal of reaching Net Zero by 2040.
In line with a 1,5°C trajectory, Geopost has committed to reducing absolute GHG emissions from scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 43% by 2030 and by 90% by 2040, compared with a 2020 baseline. This commitment and associated roadmap are fundamental to Geopost stepping up its efforts to achieve its climate goals and become recognized as the international reference in sustainability. As of July 2023, Geopost can already celebrate some strong achievements: the company has deployed 7,600 low emission vehicles, offers fully low emission delivery solutions in 102 European cities, and 76% of electricity consumed on its logistics sites comes from renewable sources.
“We are extremely proud of winning Reuters Responsible Business Awards, recognizing our leadership on the net zero transition in our sector, and thank all our teams across Geopost’s business units for their contribution in helping raise the bar high and for their continued support in the delivery of this ambition”,
